ArcStream Day 1

Today was my first day doing work expierience at ArcStream.

I arrived slightly late (I got lost, Tolworth is a bloody enormous plave) but that didn’t seem to be a problem because we spent at least fifteen minutes drinking tea. A very nice way to start… . We loaded up the van with 2 IBars, 2 Big Projectors a Big Projection Screen and other random bits. It filled a van, quite a big van and we drove up to Earls Court 2.

Shit Earls Court is big! There was the Symbian SmartPhone exhibition out (which I would recommend if you are free tomorrow – its all about smartphones and has Windows, Opera and Sony Erricson – no sign of apple yet but I’m still looking). Anyways, we’ve set up in the party area, with a LX company who have suspended an enormous rig from the ceiling. We are sort of trapped in one corner behind a Triangle of two black curtains and a RP Screen.

Our equipment is fairly specialist – An IBar is like a normal bar, but has a touch screen beneath it, powered by infared and projectors, so effectively you can make patterns and other incredibly awesome things appear (Google Maps program is in development, and they are on to Microsoft to try and find out about their TableTop software). The other piece is a rear projection screen, connected to a camera which detects infared movement, so that when you move your hand accross it, the display reacts. There is a video of it here.

I’m kind of just sitting here on Martin’s computer trying to preserve his Vodafone internet while he goes off and…well I’m not really sure, but I hope he comes back, because I’ve got damn close to 75 Grands worth of kit here, with people buliding stuff around us.

Blog again tommorrow…..
