So just how old are computers
Something Struck me for real today – in a CompSoc meeting.
We had a PowerMac out. An old one. about twenty years old. For a start it was the first computer I’d ever played with that was older than me – alot older. It ran IE 4.0.1. Which is Old. Now I don’t use Macs. I hate them, mostly. But this Mac really did show me just how far things have come on. For a start, I don’t use IE with windows, I use firefox. But my firefox does not take up 20% of my harddrive. There was precious little space for files. It was really great to see a computer which was a building block of what we use today. When browsing the internet we had to use mobile versions of sites like BBC news and Twitter because the normal sites were not supported by the machine. The mouse was at full speed but was still noticeably behind.
Having been born after the computer originally graced the earth I suppose I find it hard to imagine what it was like without computers doing everything for me.
